Well, there's a new Boredoms (or V∞rdoms, as they're sometimes known as) release and hot on the heels of that come a new EYE remix CD. I gotta say, I haven't been too impressed with the last few Bore-related things that have come out, namely Super Roots 9 and the OOIOO remix CD (both of which were major disappointments), you can find my reviews for both in the archives.
First, the Boredoms new live DVD "Live at Sun Flancisco," It's billed as the group's first concert DVD. They DO have another official DVD release, "Super Seeeeee!!!!!!", but it's only 20 minutes and half of it is just the same loop repeated over and over again. It's not necessary and it's way overpriced. The new DVD also comes with a 2-song EP that clocks in at under 12 minutes.
The DVD is yet another disappointment, shot on a single camera that drifts in and out of focus. It was recorded at The Independent live house in San Francisco during the band's 2005 U.S. tour. What pisses me off is that the quality is not much better than what you'd find in a Windows Media video, or YouTube, even. So why charge 50 bucks for basically a YouTube quality concert plus 2 new songs? Greed, I guess. Even the package design is pretty lame and that's not something I've ever complained about with a Boredoms release.
The performance and sound are pretty good, actually. I just feel like they could've put something much better out at a more reasonable price. For collectors only.
Now, onto the new EYE Remix CD, simply titled "Re... Remix" I didn't buy it, but I listened to it in the store and it's actually pretty good. It's pretty much like the DJ Pica Pica Pica thing, just under a different name. EYE always tries to confuse people by having two hundred different names. DJ EYE, Yamatsuka EYE, DJ Pica Pica Pica, Yamantaka EYE, Destroy 2, MC Hellshit, UFO or Die, etc etc etc....
It's too bad he's not as prolific and retarded as he used to be. I think EYE actually takes himself too seriously now.
I don't know if I'll end up picking this up or not, but it IS worth a listen. Here's the Tracklisting: Walrus: "Moth (remixed by Eye)"; DJ Pica Pica Pica: "Spa"; Boat: "African Dawn Remix"; Flare (Ken Ishii): "Turbinates"; NXS: "Sleeper" (Micro Forest Mix 2000); Zeebra: "Smokin' At The Lobby (Your Turn) (Magic Mushroom Mix)"; Gong: "Master Builder (EYE Mix) ; Wrench: "Cosmic Hierarchy (EYE remix)"; OOIOO: "Asozan" (EYE Mix)"; Atami: "Nightingale (x-mas mix)"; Black Drop Bomb: "When The Man Have Realized The Sound-Flow (it's like that)" by I don't know who...
